About the Academy

Training

Since its founding in 1982, FTA’s highly trained and committed staff ensure that the training environment and content of the courses not only exceed student expectations, but also contribute to the creation of a truly world-class pilot school.

Qantas Group Pilot Academy Scholarships

Pilot academy facilities

The Qantas Group Pilot Academy Scholarship Program aims to provide equity-based grants to support diversity. Over the coming five years, 100 scholarships are on offer.

Applications are open and being accepted for Academy courses from now until 2028 from females or First Nations People. If successful, the scholarship is designed to support a student with onsite accommodation costs.

The application process

If you’re born to fly and serious about a career in aviation, take the first step and apply by completing the online form.

  1. Submit your education history, flying experience, health status and availability to commence training.
  2. If you're successful, meet with FTA and Qantas to complete a computer based training assessment, and participate in a pilot aptitude test, core skills test and an interview.
  3. Before commencing at the Academy, you'll also be required to obtain a CASA Class 1 medical certificate.

Wellcamp Airport offers state-of-the-art navigation aids and access to uncongested airspace. Located in Toowoomba, Queensland, a thriving regional city with connections to major cities, it's the perfect place for students to learn how to fly. 

Graduates

Once you've graduatated from the Academy, a world of opportunities awaits. Some of our graduates are now employed as pilots in the Qantas Group, others in the aviation industry, and some have returned to the Academy as instructors.
