Its “ominous” atmosphere is what prompted Disney animators to use Chateau de Chambord as the inspiration for the Beast’s home in Beauty and the Beast. The 16th-century French castle features no less than 426 rooms, 282 fireplaces and 77 staircases, a setting every bit as grand as it looks in the movie.
