Johannesburg has a sunny climate, with the summer months (October to April) having hot days followed by afternoon thundershowers and cool evenings. Temperatures in summer average 26°C. During the winter months (May to September) they are dry, sunny days followed by cold nights. The best time to visit is during Autumn (March to May), when the weather is warm and sunny, less rain making it perfect to explore the sights of the city. Temperatures range between 21°C to 25°C.

What is the main airport called?

Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport (JNB). Is the busiest airport on the continent of Africa and is situated in the Kempton Park district of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is located 23 km north-west of the city centre and 46 km south of Pretoria city centre.

Arriving in Johannesburg

The staff at Johannesburg Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are different transport options available to get you on your way.         

Getting into Johannesburg from Johannesburg Airport

With a range of options from public transport to minibus services, you can easily find a mode of transport to suit your travel needs. There are various car rental providers available at the airport, located outside the airport entrance. It’s best to pre-book a rental car before your arrival, taking about 30 minutes to get to the city centre. Popular options are to book a hotel transfer, airport shuttle, taxi or Uber. Public transport includes the Gautrain that connects the airport to major stations in the city, located in the international at departures level. Metrobus operates through the airport twice daily.

Getting around Johannesburg

The best way to get around Johannesburg is by car with plenty of parking and car hire companies available. Uber and shared minibus taxis are a popular and safe way to get you where you want to go. Other options include the city sightseeing bus to see the major attractions including the Mining District, Carlton Centre and Gold Reef City. Public transport options include the Rea Vaya bus, Gautrain with regular services around the city. Taxis can be booked in advance, although they are not cheap. Alternatively, you may wish to join a tour.

What is the main airport called? 

Auckland Airport (AKL). The airport is a major airline hub in New Zealand and there are many domestic and international destinations for visitors to continue on to.  The airport is located near Mangere,  21 kilometres south of the Auckland city centre.

 Passengers on Qantas flights from Auckland are allocated checked baggage If you need more luggage, you can purchase an additional baggage allowance online prior to departure.      

Checking in 

Ensure you check-in online or via the Qantas App before you arrive at the airport from 24 hours before departure.
