When to visit

Warmed by the Pacific Ocean and protected by a range of mountains, Vancouver's weather is mild year-round. From high 20ºC in summer to a mild 0º to 5ºC in winter, the climate is pleasant. Summer is the best time to visit to hike Capilano Canyon, explore BC wine country and walk-through Stanley Park. Winters are wet, but it rarely snows in the city except on the ski hills. Visit Cypress Mountain and Mt Seymour to ski and snowboard.

What is the main airport called?

Vancouver International Airport (YVR). The international airport is located on Sea Island in Richmond, British Columbia. It is located 12 km from Downtown Vancouver. YVR is Canada's second-busiest airport.

Arriving in Vancouver

The helpful staff at Vancouver Airport will greet you when you land and assist you with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.         

Getting into Vancouver from Vancouver International Airport

YVR offers many convenient transportation options to get to the city. The airport is a short ride on public transit to downtown Vancouver and is easily accessible by car, bike and bus. The Canada Line rapid transit train system runs to and from YVR every few minutes. It links the airport to central Richmond and also downtown Vancouver (just 20 minutes away). The Skyline bus runs to Whistler. Taxi stands are on level two of both the Domestic and International Arrivals areas.  At the airport, you can also hire luxury sedan and limousine services, rent a car from one of the many car providers or hop on a courtesy hotel shuttle to your accommodation. Ride share options include Lyft, Uber and KABU.

Getting around Vancouver

Getting around Vancouver and surrounding neighbourhoods is easy with a range of transport options. The best ways to get around Vancouver are on foot, by bike and via public transport. Many major attractions are located within walking distance of one another. Public transport options include the Translink system – which includes the SkyTrain, the SeaBus ferry and numerous bus routes. Taxis, ride share and driving are also convenient options. There are many cycling routes and bike lanes, that make it a scenic way to explore the city.

What is the main airport called? 

Auckland Airport (AKL). The airport is a major airline hub in New Zealand and there are many domestic and international destinations for visitors to continue on to.  The airport is located near Mangere,  21 kilometres south of the Auckland city centre. 

Baggage allowance

 Passengers on Qantas flights from Auckland are allocated checked baggage If you need more luggage, you can purchase an additional baggage allowance online prior to departure.      

Checking in 

Ensure you check-in online or via the Qantas App before you arrive at the airport from 24 hours before departure.
