Places to stay

Delhi is made up of two districts, Old Delhi and New Delhi, and depending on your travelling style, you’re going to find a plethora of options in each – from high end hotels to cultural homestays and Airbnbs.

New Delhi in the south is the most popular location for tourists, thanks to its proximity to major attractions and more modern and comfortable accommodation options. For a luxury stay, you can’t go past The Lodhi, a 5 star Art Deco marvel and member of the leading hotels of the world complete with full service spa, tennis court, pool and sauna and all in walking distance to Delhi Golf Club in Central Delhi.

For a comfortable and convenient place to base yourself that’s suitable for the family, Aerocity is located 3 km from the international airport and is considered the safest area of Delhi. Here you’ll find several international hotels, malls, great public transport and dining options without the traffic and hustle of the city centres. Hotels including JW Marriott New Delhi Aerocity and Holiday Inn New Delhi Airport offer luggage storage and a 24 hour desk.

If you’d prefer the full authentic experience or are on a budget, many more budget-friendly options are to be found in Old Delhi in the north, where you’ll be delighted by more colours, sounds and pre-colonial attractions – and a lot more bustle!

Things to do

You'll find plenty to fill your holiday itinerary in this fascinating region. Spend some time in Old Delhi, where the history – and some of the sites - date back to the seventeenth century. Old Delhi is a mostly Islamic melting pot of sounds, scents and traffic where you will truly feel like you’re far from home. Take a tour or explore magnificent Mughal structures like the Red Fort and Jama Masjid, India’s largest mosque.

Continue the history lesson in New Delhi, where you can visit the garden tombs of Humayan and Sufdarjung, or stroll the leafy boulevards and lap up modern Indian life in one of the many cafes and restaurants, nightclubs or shopping districts. Follow the Rajpath from India Gate to the Presidential Palace and explore museums, markets and galleries.
