When to visit

The best time to visit Dubai is November through to February, as temperatures are pleasant and a range of events are on from food festivals to the Dubai World Cup. Average temperatures in November sit at around 25°C, with highs of 30°, making it a good time to soak up the sunshine. February, temperatures are cooler, around 24°C, making Dubai a popular winter sun destination. June and August are scorching hot, reaching 40°C, with fewer tourists, however there are plenty of airconditioned malls and restaurants to enjoy.

What is the main airport called?

Dubai International Airport (DXB) It is the primary international airport serving Dubai, United Arab Emirates and the world’s busiest airport. The airport is located 4.6km east of Dubai. 

Arriving in Dubai

The helpful staff at Dubai Airport will greet you when you land and assist you with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.         

Getting into Dubai from Dubai Airport   

With a wide range of transport options available at Dubai Airport, travelling into the city centre is easy. Choose from taxi, limousine, metro, buses, private transfer, hotel shuttle, car rental or Uber. Taxis are a popular means of transport in Dubai to get to your destination. There are airport taxis or limousines available outside each terminal, 24 hours a day. Dubai metro is a convenient way to travel with cabins in gold class and those designed especially for women and children. A ride from DXB to the city takes around 25 minutes and it's best to buy a Nol card to use on the metro. Buses are a low-cost option, mainly suited to residents of the city, as the network is extensive. Buses depart from each terminal and you need a Nol card to travel on the buses. Alternatively, you may wish to book a private transfer or organise a car with your hotel. 

Getting around Dubai

Getting around Dubai is easy, with plenty of transport options to suit your needs. Choose from metro, bus, tram, taxis, Uber, car rental or private driver. Dubai Metro is one of the most advanced and modern rail systems with a range of cabins from gold class, general cabins or those designed especially for women and children. The metro runs throughout Dubai to many landmarks, making is a seamless way to travel. It’s best to buy a Nol card to use on the trains. Buses are a low-cost option, mainly suited to residents of the city, as the network is extensive. Taxis are plentiful to take you to where you want to go, or you may wish to book an Uber for a convenient way to travel. It’s possible to rent a car, or use the car sharing service - though traffic in Dubai can be very busy. Organising a private driver is a luxurious way to get around to see the sights or you may wish to join a tour.

Fly from Auckland

Once you’ve purchased your tickets from Auckland, there are a few things you should know to ensure you’re as prepared as possible for your upcoming trip.  

What is the main airport called? 

Auckland Airport (AKL). The airport is a major airline hub in New Zealand and there are many domestic and international destinations for visitors to continue on to.  The airport is located near Mangere,  21 kilometres south of the Auckland city centre. 

Baggage allowance

 Passengers on Qantas flights from Auckland are allocated checked baggage If you need more luggage, you can purchase an additional baggage allowance online prior to departure.      

Checking in 

Ensure you check-in online or via the Qantas App before you arrive at the airport from 24 hours before departure.
