Move over, smashed avo on toast; say hello to smørrebrød. This Danish open sarnie delight is at the forefront of Morning Glory’s innovative daylight dining in the hip NewActon arts precinct.

The XO crew, who have been wowing Canberrans with their modern take on Asian cuisine, have opened a brunch and lunch venue tinged with signature style. Big night before? Kick off your morning with a mezcal Bloody Mary or take a break from booze with a dragon fruit juice that will shake your palate awake with a ginger zing.

The menu features unusual fusion dishes such as cauliflower upma and Hainanese chicken wrap (a crisp, roll-your-own roti oozing with fillings) as well as ostensibly traditional fare such as eggs and soldiers (served with kaya coconut jam and Wyngaard goat’s cheese) and seared sardines atop sweet celeriac and spicy tomato on rye. The flavours leave no doubt this joint will be a winner. A boutique wine and beer list changes frequently, while Japanese maneki-neko cats keep an eye on the action.
