Hyatt Regency Brisbane – Hotel Review

Although there’s a modern feel to the pared-back rooms, Hyatt Regency Brisbane has a history, too: even the on-site eatery, Lennons Restaurant and Bar, is a nod to the original namesake hotel, which opened in 1884. A lot’s changed since then, with the hotel now embracing a distinctly Brisbane feel in form and function, across breezy, minimalist guest rooms to sun-drenched outdoor lounging spaces.

Just next to the lively pedestrian-only Queen Street Mall in the CBD, it’s a 20-minute drive from Brisbane Airport and a seven-minute walk from Brisbane Central Station.

With its location in the centre of the city, there’s plenty within walking distance. The Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre is a 15-minute stroll, as is the South Bank cultural district and its exceptional museums. Overlooking the pool, the Hibiscus Room is a nostalgic nod to the hotel’s heyday in the 70s and 80s with colourful cocktails (or a spiked whole coconut), tropical decor and retro snacks such as a Moreton Bay bug cocktail and Scotch eggs.

Three individual meeting rooms with retractable walls, AV technology including video conferencing, high-quality sound systems and touch-screen controls offer excellent options for meetings and events. The desk and chair in each room, coupled with high-speed wi-fi, makes for a suitable workstation, plus business facilities include desktop computers linked to a printer, fax and scanner in the business centre.

Gym and pool

A 20-metre, infinity-edged, heated rooftop pool is a standout, flanked by summer-yellow striped umbrellas and a spacious lounge area adjoined to the Hibiscus Room, beckoning you to make the most of that Brissie sunshine. There’s also a 24-hour gym with weights and cardio machines.

Thursday night is jazz night at the Hibiscus Room, while Fridays are reserved for Classic Hits of the 70s and 80s… dress accordingly!
