Where is Salamanca Wharf Hotel?

At the tip of the city’s Franklin Wharf c-curve, the hotel has a prime waterfront position, just east of the CBD. Sandwiched between bustling Salamanca Place and Castray Esplanade, it’s about 20 minutes drive to Hobart Airport and about six minutes walk from the wharf.

What’s near Salamanca Wharf Hotel?

The Saturday sensation of Salamanca Market, a cluster of local providores and artisans, is mere metres from your front door; while the CBD and Farm Gate Market (the locally favoured equivalent) is about 15 minutes walk west. Heading to Mona? Of course you are. The dedicated ferry that delivers you to the famed art museum leaves from Brooke Street Pier, a flat eight minute stroll away.

Room types

There are three tiers of tranquil self-contained apartments, spanning studio suites up to a penthouse beauty with five-metre high windows overlooking a quiet street. The studios are compact and cosy, while the Premium Apartments include a small lounge and dining space. These aren’t your average apartment rentals, though – each is equipped with soft and warm goose down doonas, Smeg appliances, Blackheart Sassafras timber beds, mini bars stocked with local goodies and laundry facilities. And windows that open to the fresh Tasmanian air? It’s an overlooked feature in modern accommodations but a (sometimes bracing) blessing.

On-site parking is also helpfully included in the room rate (booking ahead is essential).

Restaurants

While there’s no on-site dining per se, there is a great little spot in Farzi at the foot of the hotel with reliable coffee, hearty breakfasts and colourful smoothies.

Travel for work

Digital nomads will need to book the Premium or Penthouse, as the studio doesn’t come with any configuration of furniture that could be fashioned into a workspace (unless sitting back in an Eames chair will do the trick). Wi-fi is free throughout, however.

Accessibility

Selected Premium apartments are wheelchair accessible, and the timber flooring makes traversing the rooms that much easier.
