Even among the crowd of Melbourne CBD’s buildings, you’ll spot Quincy Hotel, a sleek, black and gold skyscraper that looms above Flinders Lane. This lively little hotel serves a mixed crowd of guests, from sprawling family groups to flight crews and business folk, all bustling through the busy, glass-edged lobby. It’s the swathe of thoughtful inclusions, a convenient location in the CBD’s west and an excellent onsite restaurant that ticks the boxes for such a wide range of travellers. Read on for the full review.

Where is Quincy Hotel?

Quincy Hotel, Victoria

On the corner of Flinders Lane and King Street, Quincy is tucked into the south-west corner of Melbourne’s CBD. The hotel is about three city blocks from the closest tram stop (William Street/Flinders Street) and about 30 minutes by car ride from Melbourne Airport.

What’s near Quincy Hotel?

Couples with young kids will love the proximity to Sea Life aquarium, an easy three-minute walk south. A more footloose crowd can stroll the extra few minutes over the Yarra River to Crown Melbourne, a heaving complex of fine-dining favourites Nobu, Bistro Guillaume and Spice Temple, alongside the constant, luminous flicker of the attached casino and entertainment precinct.

Room types

Each room type collects its own perks, with all-inclusive of minibar credit, on-demand movies, soundproofed headboards and luxury Kevin Murphy amenities. The Hosier Club – a privilege of Hosier Club Room or Suite guests – is one you should definitely join. In addition to the salmon-pink bathroom, you’ll receive access to the rolling feast of goodies served exclusively between 7am-5pm at rooftop space The Q, including breakfast, an all-day, hot-and-cold grazing menu and evening cocktails. Families have the option of adjoining rooms – which can be cordoned off from the hallway with a separate little entrance – and to opt for the Fam Bam Fiesta package, which results in a kid-friendly minibar and popcorn to pair with the huge selection of free movies.

Restaurants and bars

Quincy Hotel, Victoria

Salted Egg, a level above the lobby via a spiral staircase, is a pleasant surprise, especially when the name Adam Woodfield (ex-Chin Chin) is dropped in conjunction with ‘Executive Chef’. The food is as bright and buzzy as that of Woodfield’s former eatery, with reasonably priced set menus of zesty betel leaf bites, delicate kingfish cut with nahn jim and rich, creamy pumpkin curry. Leave room for dessert however: the mound of pandan, ube and white chocolate is worth saving space for.

The Q is a cute little rooftop space for drinks, too – with an L-shaped terrace for exceptional post-sunset views. Inspectors, a spicy passion fruit Margarita served with a charcoal salt rim, is the signature, also canned (yes, a canned cocktail!) in conjunction with Port Melbourne-based Curatif.

SingSong, a kind of bolthole cafe with a South Asian twist, serves everything from granola yoghurt pots to Vietnamese coffee for busy, transiting guests from 7am onwards.

Travel for work

Business travellers should opt for Caledonian Rooms or above if they’re in the market for in-room working space. A Hosier Room or Suite is a no-brainer, though, with all-day access to The Q, where between the hours of 7am-5pm, a complimentary (and near-constant) rotation of drinks and snacks (the best of which are served during cocktail hour) are served in the tunnel-like space.

Gym and pool

Quincy Hotel, Victoria

The small, anti-fatigue-mat floored gym has a feature that many others don’t: views all the way to the Dandenong Ranges, which makes for a good distraction. The small pool, heated year-round to 32 degrees, has similarly impressive views, as well as panels that can open to the elements on unseasonably warm Melbourne days.
