Paris' Premier Teahouse, Mariage Frere
Established in 1854, Mariage Frères is Paris’ premier teahouse. Have your own blend mixed by its white-gloved tea apothecary experts and housed within an elegant enamel tin, or pick up a packet of flower tea that expands so beautifully in your cup like a little sea urchin. There are several Mariage Frères outposts across Paris and within them you can view artifacts that trace tea’s long history in addition to sampling a pot for afternoon tea. This is a wonderful place to bring the family and is also the perfect store to source beautifully packaged gifts.
Location
The former Jewish quarter of the Marais is a melting pot of cool corners. Whether you are seeking casual bistros to watch the passing fashionparade, local art galleries, organic supermarkets or specialty artisan stores – also note that the Marais is the only designer shopping district open on a Sunday – this arrondissement’s cobblestone streets posses style in spades.
