DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti – Hotel Review

doubletree-hilton-rome-exterior

The Rome neighbourhood of Monti is known for its residential charm. The cobbled streets are quiet (save for that charmingly Italian buzz of passing scooters) and ivy draped, while all being within walking distance of the city’s biggest landmarks. It’s here that DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti has its home and, thanks to stylish rooms, rooftop bar and efficient service, this hotel is as much of a gem as its great location. Read on for the full review.

Where is DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti?

You’ll find the unassuming DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti on the corner of two cobbled streets and next to a cluster of towering trees. It’s about seven minutes walk from Roma Termini station, which has quick links to Leonardo da Vinci Airport (the Leonardo express takes just 32 minutes). A cab takes about the same time.

What’s near DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti?

Three fabulous Roman sites trace a fan-like trail to the west of the hotel, with the Trevi Fountain, the Roman Forum and the Colosseum all reachable in about 17 minutes (in different directions). If you’re after a quick leg stretch, the imposing Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore is a 300 metre stroll down the road.

The rooms are slightly less eclectic than the common areas but the enviably cool mid-century tone remains. Comfy beds sit on dark timber floors, with low-hanging pendant lamps and jewel green velvet occasional chairs. All rooms have Lavazza espresso machines, desks and small dining areas and free wi-fi fit for remote work, while bathrooms have honeycomb-tiled walk-in showers with bathrobes and slippers.

Restaurants and bars

You’d pay good money elsewhere to sink into a lounge like those that just casually grace the relaxed Mùn Rooftop Cocktail Bar on the eighth floor, overlooking that stately Esquilino Square. Open until midnight, it’s a glorious place to sip a spritz or nosh on light bites of zucchini flowers or pulled pork croquettes. Mamalia is the breakfast room and all-day restaurant.

Travel for work

Meeting rooms are muted and functional, with capacities from 12 up to 60. There are plenty of places to tap out a few emails if your room shouldn’t suffice – the lobby area dotted with palms and rattan chairs has a nice ambient hum, too.

Gym

The on-site fitness centre is a small, serviceable space with the requisites (cardio equipment, free weights and exercise balls).

Accessibility

Seven of the property’s rooms meet accessibility requirements (and there’s a lift to the rooftop bar) but guests with disabilities should be aware there are no TTY facilities for guests use.

What you need to know

Families are very welcome, with a slew of equipment fit for parents and tiny tots. Bottle warmers, bath accessories and activity packs are all on hand should you need them.
