If you want to mingle with a cool crowd, Friday night at Ace Hotel is the place to be. The lobby bar has lots of intimate nooks, an art exhibition space, bar stools, couches and communal tables and if you get peckish while sipping beers and cocktails, you can order from the menu of Hoi Polloi, their restaurant next door. Few hotel lobbies actually succeed in seducing a local crowd but, thanks to Ace’s urban style and mood lighting, this truly feels like a happening social space where’s it’s easy to spend the whole night.

Location

Shoreditch is the ultimate in East London hipster-cool. Buildings are covered with impressive graffiti art; streets are frequented by pretty young things shooting scenes for music videos and indie films; and the eating, drinking and boutique shopping is all about independent owners rather than chain brands. Catch the overground train to Shoreditch High Street or, for the tube, get off at either Liverpool Street (five-minute walk) or Old Street (15-minute walk).
