Parker Guest House
Considered one of the best guesthouses in the US, the Parker is made up of two 1909 Edwardian mini-mansions joined together and surrounded by lovely gardens with a small steam room down one side – it really feels like an oasis. The Parker has beautiful rugs on timber floors, 21 guest rooms, lounges with fireplaces, piano, sherry service, free wi-fi and a library.
The rooms have most amenities but prices vary and there are some cheaper rooms with shared bathrooms. Extended continental breakfast and complementary wine is served every day in the sunroom overlooking the gardens. Despite this homely style, the Parker also has a concierge service, business centre and meeting areas.
Location
Once working class, the Castro was one of the first gay neighbourhoods in the US and has been the centre of LGBT activism for decades. It remains one of the city’s liveliest suburbs, is full of great bars and restaurants and has a survivor’s joie de vivre. (It also has some really big hills.)
