InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa – Hotel Review

Set on 14 hectares of tropical gardens, InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa lures its guests outside, rewarding them with an oceanfront (and golf course-adjacent) location. Even the rooms, which all feature outdoor living spaces furnished with comfy loungers and, in some cases, screened soaking tubs, turn the focus firmly — and rightly — to the stunning surrounds. Outdoor activities are unsurprisingly popular and breathtakingly close at this relaxed resort. You don’t have to take a boat ride anywhere to spot schools of tropical fish: snorkelling in Natadola Bay, the near-private stretch of ocean the resort hugs, is excellent and you’ll often see guests engrossed in beach cricket or riding on horseback in the sand. It’s this setting that makes the property all the more blissful.

Where is InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa?

The InterContinental has the run of pristine Natadola Beach in Viti Levu’s south-west. It’s about an hour south of Nadi airport and transfers can easily be arranged through the hotel.

The Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course is just next door, an obvious drawcard for golfers. Otherwise, it’s pretty much just you, the beach and the ocean – and the smorgasbord of on-site activities, from snorkelling to sunset yoga.

Room types

Those lush gardens seem to invite themselves into every room and with pared-back interiors of low-slung cane chairs and plush platform beds, the decor never distracts from nature — or from the soaking tubs tucked privately into a corner of the connecting terrace areas. Although pillow menus, high-speed internet and turn down come standard with all rooms, suites have the added benefit of even larger outdoor spots for lazing, as well as fluffy bathrobes, luxurious Pure Fiji amenities and in-room coffee machines.

Restaurants and bars

There are four on-site eateries. Navo, where breakfast of familiar classics (pancakes, eggs Benedict et al) is served at tables near thrown-open doors that overlook the Pacific, transforms into a fine-diner come evening. The degustation menu draws inspiration from Navo Island, the atoll across the channel from the resort. Local seafood naturally features heavily but the lamb shoulder slow-cooked in banana leaf with wild ginger is a standout.

Toba Bar & Grill’s day menu is a kind of modern pub-grub offering, with mahi-mahi fish tacos and buttermilk fried Fijian chicken (served with curry leaves and chilli sauce), while Kama Lounge serves bar snacks and excellent cocktails mixed with Fijian liquors. Harnessing the flavours of VulaViti vodka, Blue Turtle Fiji gin or Ratu spiced rum, they’re as fresh as the seabreeze — especially the Namartini, served with sea grapes.

Travel for work

In-room wi-fi makes from-lap working easy but you’ll have to head elsewhere (or upgrade) if you need a more ergonomic set-up — the Natadola Suite has both large and small tables, while the Club InterContinental two-bedroom suite has a dining table that can double as a desk. The latter also includes access to Club InterContinental, a private beach-bar-esque space overlooking a stunning infinity pool that serves cocktails and canapés.

There are also a number of large conference spaces for hire on-site and the entire resort is hireable for what would likely be the world’s best offsite.

Spa, pool and gym

The sprawling Spa InterContinental is bliss incarnate, thanks to a dedicated Wai (water) Zone that includes water therapy in gas, liquid and solid states. Access to the steam room, hydrotherapy jacuzzi and ice room is complimentary with every treatment, which, upon request, can be performed under a thatched cabana overlooking the ocean.

The hotel’s main pool overlooks the ocean and is framed by swaying palms, while the gym is similarly pleasant (no, truly!), with its treadmills oriented to the landscaped gardens.

What you need to know

Planet Trekkers, the resort’s on-site kids club program, is divided into two age groups to better cater for busy children. (It also runs late into the night for older kids so a romantic dinner is more than possible.)
