M Social Auckland – Hotel Review
You can’t get more central than M Social Auckland. That’s not an overstatement: the waters of Princes Wharf are visible from the front doors of the hotel (and from every one of the 180 front-facing rooms). Neither a day trip to the winery heaven of Waiheke Island or a turn around the shopping precinct of Britomart needs extensive planning – you can simply cross the road and start exploring. Read on for the full review.
Where is M Social Auckland?
On Quay Street, between Viaduct Harbour and Queens Wharf in downtown’s north. It takes about 30 minutes to reach Auckland Airport by car.
What’s near M Social Auckland?
If you’re planning to laden your arms with shopping, you can – all three of the city’s shopping districts (namely the mall-like Commercial Bay, designer-lined Queen Street and left-of-centre local talent hub of Britomart where favourites such as Maggie Marilyn and Karen Walker reside) are minutes away on foot. To take things up a notch, the 328-metre tall spike of Sky Tower is also only about a 12-minute stroll away.

Wall-to-wall picture windows are the standout feature in the sharply styled rooms, dressed mostly in white with quirky accents of scrawled text on walls or mural bedheads. Expect pod-powered coffee machines, eco-friendly amenities, robes, slippers and, in the expansive Harbour Suite, a boat-like bathtub that’s practically begging for an extended soak. Other notable perks to this suite include bottomless barista coffee, and a free bottle of bubbly plus a complimentary charcuterie board at the on-site Beast & Butterflies restaurant.
Restaurants and bars
Beast & Butterflies is a lively mix of local produce and offshore flavours, exemplified in dishes from rendang curry-braised ribs or Hawkes Bay lamb with harissa and coriander gremolata. It’s also where breakfast happens, with an à la carte selection of eggs and sides (bacon, hash browns, the works) or a continental buffet of cold meats, fruits and granola.
Travel for work
There are numerous conference and meeting rooms on-site, with floor-to-ceiling windows flushing the spaces with natural light. Wi-fi is free in all rooms, with each inclusive of, at minimum, diminutive dining tables for remote working.
Gym
The fitness centre is small but it’ll do the trick with treadmills, bikes and weight machines.
Accessibility
If you’re travelling as part of a group, there are eight accessible rooms with interconnecting capacity.
