Pride is in the Air

In 2023, Sydney WorldPride and Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras unite to present a truly global LGBTQI+ pride festival – the very first in the Southern Hemisphere.

WorldPride Flight

As the official airline partner for Sydney WorldPride, we are preparing to take off from Los Angeles on 22 February and bring members of the LGBTQI+ community direct to the glamour and glitz of the Harbour City for WorldPride.

The dedicated flight features live entertainment, special edition amenities and surprises along the way for an extraordinary journey to Sydney:

  • One general admission ticket to the sold out Live and Proud: Sydney WorldPride Opening Concert on 24 February featuring Kylie Minogue, Charlie XCX and Jessica Mauboy
  • Exclusive pre-flight entertainment for all passengers in the Qantas Los Angeles First Lounge, headlined by popular singer and musician G Flip with special DJ performances
  • MECCA MAX will host an inflight makeup masterclass at 40,000 feet, to help passengers get party ready for the arrival celebrations at Sydney Airport.
  • Onboard entertainment from Australian comedian Joel Creasey, live inflight drag performances, special edition 'Rainbow Roo' PJs and an exclusive menu designed by Australian chef, Neil Perry, Qantas Director of Food, Beverage & Service
  • Inflight movies, music and content curated for the LGBTQI+ community
  • A range of special extras including complimentary breakfast for two, welcome amenities and hotel credits on selected premium rooms offered by Marriott Bonvoy

We are proud to operate this flight with members of the Qantas Illuminate network - a community of Qantas LGBTQI+ employees and their allies.

This flight is net zero emissions with 100% emissions carbon offset.

The Festival

From 17 February to 5 March 2023, Sydney WorldPride will celebrate Australia’s brilliant and diverse LGBTQI+ community in a city renowned for its diversity, inclusivity and proud LGBTQI+ population. Featuring all the beloved Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras events, Sydney WorldPride marks the beginning of a broader festival celebrating art, sport, theatre, concerts, parties, First Nations programming and a Human Rights Conference. More than 500,000 people are expected to participate in the festival. The world-famous Mardi Gras Parade returns to Oxford Street for the first time in three years.

In 2023, Sydney Mardi Gras and Sydney WorldPride introduces the world to the South Pacific LGBTQI+ communities, giving the First Nations and Asia Pacific people the opportunity to share their pride on a global stage.

The 17-day combined events showcase Sydney Mardi Gras favourites like the spectacular Parade, Fair Day and Mardi Gras Party. Sydney WorldPride will feature world-class Opening and Closing Ceremonies, a Human Rights Conference and First Nations Gathering and a Pride March.

2023 also marks Australia’s 50th anniversary of the first Gay Pride Week, the 45th anniversary of the first Mardi Gras Parade, and 5th year anniversary of Australian marriage equality.
