When to visit

The best time to visit Washington D.C. is typically in autumn (September to November). The weather is comfortable (10ºC to 20ºC), crowds are smaller and there's still plenty to do around the city. Whenever you decide to go, there is always plenty on in the Nation's Capital. If you visit in March to April, you can catch the popular National Cherry Blossom Festival. Memorial Day weekend is 4th of July and Thanksgiving weekend is another popular time to visit. Winters are often very cold and snowy, dropping to -1ºC.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). Typically referred to as Dulles International Airport, Dulles Airport, Washington Dulles is an international airport in the Eastern United States, located in Loudoun County and Fairfax County in Virginia, 41 Km (26 miles) west of Downtown Washington, D.C.

The helpful staff at Washington Airport will greet you when you land and assist you with your needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into Washington from Washington Airport

Getting to and from Dulles International airport is easy many different transport options available. Choose from public transport to app-based ride services, you can find a mode of transport to meet your travel needs. Rental car companies are located at the airport. Free shuttle buses operated by each rental car company will take customers between the rental car facility and the terminal. Washington Flyer Taxicabs serve Washington Dulles International Airport exclusively with 24-hour service to and from the airport. For public transport you can take The Silver Line Express Bus that provides a convenient, economical connection between Washington Dulles International Airport and the Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail Station. The trip takes about 15 minutes. Other buses are available to downtown Washington D.C near the baggage claim. If you have organised a transfer or limousine, private vehicle pick-up is located outside the main terminal on the arrivals level. App-based ride services are also available.

Getting around Washington

There are many ways to get around Washington, with the following modes of transport available. Explore the national’s capital with ease by using public transport. The most commonly used transport systems for getting around the DC area are operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). It's also possible to take the MetroBus with hundreds of routes throughout the city and the greater Washington, DC area. The DC Circulator is a bus and, just $1 for all riders and travels along six specific routes designed for easy-on, easy-off access at points of interest throughout the District. One of the best ways to experience Washington, DC is on foot. The city’s wide sidewalks meander past the inspiring monuments and museums found on the National Mall, as well as the intimate museums, world-class theatres and splendid gardens in the city’s collection of neighbourhoods. For economical ways to explore the city there are plenty of options for renting bikes, scooters or mopeds. Taxis, the Vamoose Bus, limousines, chaffuer cars, ride share and guided tours are also available.
