When to visit

Chennai has a tropical wet and dry climate with an average temperature of 26°C. The best time to visit is during winter (December to February) with lower temperatures and less rain. Summers (March–June) are hot and humid, with average highs in the mid-to-high 30s. Maximum temperatures often exceed 40°C between April and June. Heavy rain from the south-west summer monsoon falls between June and October, which makes it tricky to see the sights.
