What is the main airport called?

Nội Bài International Airport (HAN). The airport is in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, the largest airport in Vietnam and is the main airport serving Hanoi. The airport is located in Phu Minh Commune in Sóc Sơn District, about 35 kilometres (21 miles) northeast of downtown Hanoi.

Arriving in Hanoi

The staff at Hanoi Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are different transport options available to get you on your way.         

Getting into Hanoi from Hanoi Airport

With a range of transport services available at Hanoi Noi Bai Airport, travelling into the city centre is easy. Choose from taxis, car rental, airport transfer, coach, ride-share or bus. Taxis are available on the arrivals area at both terminals and be sure to confirm with the driver to have the metre on. A taxi ride to the city centre takes approximately 30 minutes. Public buses are located 200 meters away from the airport gate and run every 15 to 20 minutes to various stops within Hanoi including to Hanoi Old Quarter. There are coaches from both terminals heading towards Quang Trung street. Electric cars are a good way to transfer between the two terminals. It's possible to book a private transfer or organise through your hotel for an airport shuttle. Grab is the Vietnamese version of Uber making it very easy to get to the city. Just book a car through the Grab app. It is possible to rent a car or minivan in Hanoi to see the attractions such as the Temple of Literature or Hoan Kiem Lake. 

Getting around Hanoi

Getting around in Hanoi is easy as many attractions, restaurants, shopping and hotels are located close to each other. The city’s locals travel mostly on motorbikes while motorcycle taxis, buses and private cars are available for when you want to visit other districts within Hanoi. Hanoi is a very compact city, and you can take a taxi, hire a car or book a driver for the day. Travelling via motorcycle taxis is a quick and inexpensive way of getting around in Hanoi as you can find one in most parts of the city. You can easily hail a taxi on the street or request one from your hotel, be sure to get the metre turned on. Cyclos are a fairly inexpensive mode of transport in Hanoi, though it can only take one passenger as it’s a two seated vehicle. It's a good way to tour through the Old Quarter as the streets are quite narrow. Hanoi is also served by local buses (decked out in red, white, and yellow) that cover regular routes within the city, most of which stop nearby and in front of famous attractions such as Hoan Kiem Lake, The Old Quarter and Hanoi Train Station. Grab, the Vietnamese version of Uber is available, they are cheap and can be booked through the app. Alternatively, you may wish to join one of the many tours.
