The best time to visit Tokyo is in spring  between March and April to view the famous cherry blossoms in full bloom. Some popular spots are the Shinjuku Gyoen park and Ueno Park. Temperatures range from 1°C to 12°C. Autumn is a popular time to visit to experience the colours of the trees with comfortable temperatures. If you plan to visit in winter (December to March) you’ll experience the amazing dazzling winter lights, Japanese New Year festivals and hot springs. Temperatures are cold, ranging from -4°C to 1°C. Arrival information

What is the main airport called?

Narita International Airport (NRT) Also known as Tokyo-Narita, formerly and originally known as New Tokyo International Airport, is the secondary international airport in the Greater Tokyo Area of Japan and the closest international airport to the cities of Narita, Kozaki and Tomisato. It has three terminals connected by a free shuttle.

Arriving in Narita (Tokyo)

The helpful staff at Narita Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into Tokyo from Narita International Airport

The most comfortable way of travel between Narita Airport and Tokyo Station is the JR Narita Express (NEX). The one-way journey takes roughly one hour with regular departures. The JR Sobu Line (Rapid Service) is the slower but cheaper JR alternative to the Narita Express. The one-way trip takes roughly 90 minutes. Take the Keisei Skyliner train from Narita Airport to Nippori Station (about 40 minutes, 2520 yen) and transfer to the JR Yamanote Line or JR Keihin-Tohoku Line to get to Tokyo Station. Limousine buses to Tokyo Station depart Narita Airport every 15 to 20 minutes. Several bus companies offer connections to various places in the Tokyo area. As Narita Airport is located about 60 km outside of Tokyo, a taxi ride into central Tokyo is very expensive.

Getting around Tokyo

Getting around Tokyo and surrounding neighbourhoods is easy with a range of trains, subways, bus companies and a tram line available. The public transport network has an increasing number of English signage,  making getting around Tokyo relatively stress-free. The system is efficient, clean, safe and easy to navigate. The subway is the quickest and easiest way to get around central Tokyo. By train, the Japan Rail (JR) Yamanote (loop) and Chūō-Sōbu (central) lines service major stations, and an easy way to see the sights. Taxis are easy to hail, though not cheap. Cycling is a fun way to get around, once you navigate the traffic with a bike share system available. The Toei bus runs though the city, though not as easy as the subway. It is possible to hire a car, though you will need an international licence and the roads can be confusing. Taxis and chauffeurs are a convenient way to ride around town.
