Arrival information

What is the main airport called?

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). It is an international airport serving Taipei and northern Taiwan, China. The airport is located about 40 km west of Taipei in Dayuan District, Taoyuan. The airport is Taiwan's largest and busiest airport.

Arriving in Taipei

The staff at Taipei Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Then there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into Taipei from the airport

With a range of transport available at Taoyuan Airport, travelling into the city centre is easy. Choose from taxis, rental car, high speed train, bus, private transfer or hotel shuttle. Taxis are located at the west side of terminal 1 and 2 at the arrivals lobby at Taiwan Airport. Taxi is the easiest option, safe, though most expensive and takes around 50 minutes. It's possible to rent a car, as most signs are in English and Chinese, though there can be a lot of traffic. The Taiwan high speed train (THSR) is an efficient way to travel, however the quickest way is the Airport MRT. From the airport terminal, hop on the MRT and you will arrive in Taipei Main station in just 35 minutes. From there you can take the MRT to where you need to be. The shuttle bus is a cheap option to get to the city centre with different routes towards the Xinyi District. Alternatively, you may wish to book a private transfer or organise with your hotel for a car.

Getting around Taipei

Getting around Taipei is easy with many modes of transport available. Choose from public transport, taxi, bicycle and bus. The MRT is the quickest way to get around, it's clean, safe and trains run from 6am till midnight. Announcements and signs are in Mandarin and English, as are fares and routes at ticket machines. It's best to buy a day pass or an EasyCard. Yellow taxi cabs are fairly inexpensive, and you can find them all over the city or use TaxiGo. City buses are clean and comfortable and run frequently thoughout the city. YouBike is an excellent bike share system, where you can rent a bike and drop it off at another location. If you stick to one or two neighbouring districts, Taipei is a very walkable city. It is possible to rent a car, though you need an international license. Alternatively, you may wish to join a tour.
