Summer in Byron Bay (Dec-Feb) has the hottest days (average around 27 ºC), the evenings often have showers, cooling the temperature down. The ocean is warm and perfect for days on the beach, though it is busy with school holidays.

Ballina Byron Gateway Airport (BNK). It is located just five minutes from Ballina CBD and less than 30 minutes to Byron Bay and Lismore. Taxis, rideshare vehicles, hire cars and hire cars are available at the airport for your convenience.

Arriving at Byron Bay (Ballina) Airport

When your flight arrives at Ballina Airport, you’ll be welcomed by the friendly staff at Ballina Byron Airport ready to get your holiday underway. The town of Byron Bay is 38km from Ballina Airport, taking about a 40-minute drive from the airport. Once you collect your bags from the baggage carousel, there are multiple different transport options available to get you to town. This airport is small, but you will find two ATMs, a visitor information desk, payphones, a café and free WiFi.

Getting into Byron Bay

Hire cars or taxis are not available at the terminal, but contact your chosen accommodation provider in advance, and many will offer an airport transfer to your place of stay in Byron. Alternatively, you may wish to rent a car and drive.

Getting around Byron Bay

There are so many activities to see and do in Byron and the easiest way to get around town is on foot. Another great transport option is to hire a bike from one of the hotels or bike hire shops, for a fun way to cycle along the footpaths. Car hire, Uber, tours and shuttle services are also a popular way to get around Byron and explore the sites. You may also wish to hire a kayak to paddle in the Pacific Ocean to spot dolphins.
