When to visit

Budapest has a continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. Winter (November to early March) is very cold with little sunshine and temperatures range around 0°C to 3°C. In summer (July and August) the city is in full swing with festivals and events around Heroes’ Square. Temperatures in summer range around 23°C. Between May and June (Spring) and September and October (Autumn) are the best times to visit, as there are less crowds, making it a better time to see the attractions. In spring, catch The Budapest Spring Festival that includes concerts at several venues across the city. Temperatures are cool around 13°C to 17°C.

Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) Commonly known as Ferihegy, is the international airport serving the Hungarian capital city of Budapest. The airport is located 16 kilometres southeast of the centre of Budapest.

When your flight arrives in Budapest you’ll be welcomed by the staff the airport to get your visit off to the right start. 

Getting into Budapest from Budapest Airport 

With a wide range of transport options available at Budapest Airport, travelling into the city centre is easy. Choose from bus, minibus, taxi, train, private transfer, hotel shuttle or car rental. The 100E direct airport shuttle bus transfers between Ferenc Liszt International Airport and Deák Ferenc Square in the city centre, a key transport hub in Budapest. The service runs every day, and the bus stops are located on the arrivals level, between the two terminals. Bus line 200E operates day and night between Terminal 2 and Nagyvárad tér Metro Station. MiniBUS is the official airport shuttle service provider for Budapest Airport, for a fast and convenient way to travel between the terminals and the city. By train, the closest train station to Budapest Airport Terminal 2 is Ferihegy, with trains operating to and from the Nyugati railway station in Budapest. You can take a taxi or bus to the train station. Taxi is the quickest way to reach the city centre, with stands in front of both terminals. It takes approximately 35 minutes to get into town. Car rental companies are available at the airport, or you can make use of the car sharing services.

Getting around Budapest 

Getting around Budapest is easy, with plenty of transport options to suit your needs. Choose from public transport, taxis, car hire, on foot and bikes. Public transport includes trams, buses, metro, trolleybuses and train services. Ferries run on a summer service. Trams are the main transport network throughout the city, and buses are also a popular choice. There are four metro lines throughout the city. It's best to buy a Budapest Card for unlimited travel on public transport, along with free or discounted travel on multiple attractions. There are plenty of taxis in Budapest, which can be booked by phone or hailed on the street. Be sure to check they have a taxi sight on display. It's possible to hire a car, though you need an international driving license. Budapest has a bike hire scheme with over 90 stations throughout the city and cycling along the Danube is popular.
