Hangzhou's climate is humid subtropical, with four distinct seasons. Hangzhou is suitable to visit all year round, but the most popular seasons to visit are spring and autumn. Spring (March to April) is the best time to enjoy the most beautiful scenery around West Lake, with peach blossoms and budding willows. The lake is clear blue and with plenty of sunshine. The average temperatures are between 14°C and 26°C. Autumn (October to November) is cooler and dry making it the perfect time to climb the pagodas. The average temperatures are between 14°C and 23°C. Arrival information

What is the main airport called?

Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH). It’s the main airport serving Hangzhou, a major city in the Yangtze River Delta region and the capital of Zhejiang Province, China. The airport is located on the southern shore of Qiantang River in Xiaoshan District and is 27 km east of downtown Hangzhou.

Arriving in Hangzhou

The staff at Hangzhou Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into Hangzhou from Hangzhou Airport

With a range of transport options available at Hangzhou Airport, travelling into the city centre is easy. Choose from bus, train, taxi, ride-share, airport transfer, towncar or car rental. The quickest and easiest way to get to Hangzhou city centre is by taxi, taking approximately 35 minutes depending on the traffic. Taxis are located outside Gate 10 of Arrivals, Domestic Terminal Building. Otherwise, you may wish to book a taxi through DiDi. (China's version of Uber) for a convenient way to travel. Hangzhou Metro Line 1 and Line 7 connect the airport with the city downtown. There are airport bus services linking the airport to points throughout Zhejiang and cities in Jiangsu. A large number of bus services are available to downtown Hangzhou and can be found at the ticketing office. The shuttle bus goes straight to downtown and takes around 45 minutes. It is possible to rent a car, though you need a Chinese driver’s license, so you would be best to rent a car with a driver.

Getting around Hangzhou

With a range of transport options to see the city sites, getting around Hangzhou is easy. Choose from taxi, buses, metro, bicycle or join a tour. The easiest and most scenic way to get around is to rent a bike through the Hángzhōu Bike Hire Scheme. Stations are located in large numbers around the city, and it's lovely to cycle around West Lake. Hángzhōu has a clean, efficient bus system and getting around is simple to see Lingyin Temple and many sites in the tea plantation area. The metro line 1 runs from the southeast of town, through the main train station, along the east side of West Lake and on to the east train station. There are taxis from the main station, though the queues can be long, so you may wish to book a taxi through DiDi (China's version of Uber). To take in more of the city, why not join one of the many organised tours.
