When to visit

Kaohsiung has a topical and warm climate. The best time to go to Kaohsiung is from October to January. Autumn (September to November) has clear skies with temperatures around 20°C, making it lovely to see the main attractions. Winter (December to February) is cold from 10°C to 15°C, but you can enjoy the New Year celebrations. Summer (June to August) temperatures reach 35°C, making it a good time to enjoy the beaches and outdoor activities, though it is monsoon season with some heavy rain.

What is the main airport called?

Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) It is the larger of Taiwan's two major airport, located in the Siaogang District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It is also known as Siaogang Airport and has both a domestic and international terminal. 

Arriving in Kaohsiung 

The staff at Kaohsiung Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Then there are various transport options available to get you on your way.         

Getting into Kaohsiung from Kaohsiung Airport 

With a range of transport available at Kaohsiung Airport, travelling into the city centre is easy. Choose from taxis, rental car, high speed train, metro, bus, private transfer or hotel shuttle. Yellow Taxis are located at both terminals near the arrivals exit, taking approximately 10 minutes to get to the city centre. It's possible to rent a car with the car rental centre between the international and domestic terminals, near the bus stop. The Kaohsiung Metro (KRTC) is an efficient way to get into the city, with trains running every 4 to 6 minutes. You can take the Metro to the HSR Zouying Station to use the well-connected high speed rail services. The trip time is approximately 14 minutes. There is a long-distance bus to Kenting and takes about 2 hours, so the metro is a faster option. The Tainan Express bus can transfer you between Kaohsiung Airport (KHH) and Tainan. Alternatively, you may wish to book a private transfer or organise with your hotel for a car. 

Getting around Taipei

Getting around Kaohsiung is easy with many modes of transport available. Choose from public transport, taxi, car, ferry and bus. The easiest way to get around central Kaohsiung is by MRT. It's clean, safe and trains run from 6am till midnight. Signs are in Chinese and English making it handy for visitors to see the main spots and tickets can be bought at each station. The LRT light rail is a good way to see the southeastern end of the harbour. The city has a decent bus system that ties in with the KMRT. The bus hub is directly in front of the train station and buses have English signs. It's possible to rent a car and taxis are available. You may wish to join an organised tour or cruise along the Love River on a boat.
