Newman, Western Australia is a modern mining town servicing the large BHP Billiton Mt Whaleback Mine. The town is in the Pilbara region north of Perth. Sitting on the edge of the Western Desert, the town is dominated by Mount Newman. There’s also plenty of things to do for nature lovers around Newman. Visit Weeli Wolli, a permanent freshwater spring filled with fish and birdlife. Kalgans Pool is the perfect place for a refreshing dip and the road to Eagle Rock Falls offers a great four-wheel drive adventure. Nights are cool with the wind off the desert can see temperatures drop to near freezing. Summer is the wet season with heavy ran in the afternoons.
