Dili, the capital of East Timor has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. A rainy season lasts from November to April and the dry season is from May to October. Temperatures average around 26°C to 28°C throughout the year. The best time to visit to enjoy the drier weather is from April to July, with August having the least amount of rain and it’s whale watching season, though it’s humid all year round.

Getting into Dili from Dili Airport

Dili Airport (DIL) is located in the Comoro neighbourhood, about 6km west of the city centre. The best way to get to the city, if you haven’t arranged a transfer from your hotel is to take a taxi. It costs around $10USD at a fixed rate. There are shared minibuses, which are cheaper and mainly used by locals.

Getting around Dili

The best way to appreciate Timor-Leste’s natural beauty is to rent a car and take a scenic drive along the spectacular coastline. Other options to get around are to join sightseeing excursions, walking or take a taxi.
