Arrival information

What is the main airport called?

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN). It is the main airport of Guangzhou, the capital of the province of Guangdong, People's Republic of China. It is located 28 kilometres north of Guangzhou city centre, in Baiyun and Handu District.

Arriving in Guangzhou

The staff at Guangzhou Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into Guangzhou from Guangzhou Airport

With a range of transport options available at Guangzhou Airport, travelling into the city centre is easy. Choose from taxis, high speed train, metro, private transfer or hotel shuttle. Guangzhou Baiyun Airport is about 6 km from the Guangzhou urban area. If you choose to take a taxi to downtown from the airport, it takes about 40 minutes. Guangzhou International Airport Terminals have subway stations in the basement, that can transfer you from Guangzhou Airport to downtown on Metro Line 3. If you wish to take a bus, there is an Airport Express Bus with different routes to the city, taking between 40 and 90 minutes depending on your destination. It is possible to rent a car, though you need a Chinese driver's license, so you would be best to rent a car with a driver, although the roads can be busy. Alternatively, you may wish to organise a private transfer or book a taxi through DiDi (China's version of Uber).

Getting around Guangzhou

The best way to get around Guangzhou is to use the metro. The metro is a fast and cheap way to travel within the city and its extensive network connects to major transport hubs, top attractions, shopping places and the CBD. From Guangzhou Railway Station, normal speed trains operate throughout the city. From Guangzhou Railway Station South, bullet and high-speed trains connect to other Chinese cities. There are plenty of buses with over 1,200 routes, with signs in both English and Chinese. Metered taxis are available, though can be tricky to catch during rush hour. DiDi (China's version of Uber) is available and a comfortable way to travel, though depending on the traffic. Alternatively, you may wish to join a tour or organise a private transfer.
