When to visit

Mauritius has a mild climate all year round with an average temperature of 25ºC and a pleasant water temperature suitable for swimming both during summer and winter. The best times to visit the island are from April to June and September to December, to avoid the peak of summer and winter, the only two seasons in Mauritius. Summer lasts from October to April with plenty of sunlight, some humidity and heavy rain in February and March.

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, also known as also known as Mauritius Airport (MRU). It is the main international airport in Mauritius, located 48 km southeast of the capital city of Port Louis.

The helpful staff at Mauritius Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.         

Getting into Mauritius from Mauritius Airport     

Getting into Mauritius is easy, with different transport options available depending on your needs. Choose from taxis, bus, hotel shuttle or car hire. Taxi is a convenient option taking 50 minutes to get to Port Louis, with ranks located on the ground level of the main terminal. Alternatively, you could book a private transfer to take you to your destination. There are several bus services to the city centre, bus 09, 10 and 198.  The bus stop is located in the car park with regular services. It's possible to rent a car from the airport to explore the island, organise a car with a driver or you may wish to organise a hotel shuttle.  

Getting around Mauritius

There are many ways to get around Mauritius, with different transport options available to explore the island. Some of the most popular means are bus, car, motorbike, taxi, tours or helicopter. Buses are a fun, cheap way to explore the island and travel everywhere, with the main transport hub in Port Louis. It's best to jump on the express buses as they are faster and have air-conditioning. Driving is a popular and flexible way to tour the island, with signs in English. Open-topped jeeps, Mini Cooper convertibles and 4WDs can be rented from car hire providers and major resorts. Scooters and motorbikes can be rented in some tourist centres, and you need a valid driving licence. Taxis are a convenient option to get around and can be found at hotels and shopping centres. A good way to see the island is to join a tour offered by island tour companies, hotels and resorts to take in the major island sights. A scenic way to see Mauritius is to book a helicopter tour.
