Arrival information

What is the main airport called?

Tokyo International Airport (HND) Also known as Haneda Airport, Tokyo Haneda Airport, and Haneda International Airport, is one of two international airports serving the Greater Tokyo Area. It is located less than 30 minutes south of central Tokyo, considerably closer to the city centre than Narita Airport, Tokyo's other airport. There are free shuttle services between all the terminals.

Arriving in Tokyo

The helpful staff at Tokyo International Airport will greet you when you land and assist you with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into Tokyo from Tokyo Airport

Getting into Tokyo city from Haneda Airport is easy, with many transport options available. The quickest way to travel between Haneda Airport and Tokyo Station is to take the Tokyo Monorial. Take the JR Yamanote or JR Keihin-Tohoku Line from Tokyo Station to Hamamatsucho Station and transfer to the Tokyo Monorail to Haneda Airport, around 30 minutes in total. Alternatively take the Keikyu railway subway to the city centre. Limousine buses operate to Tokyo and neighbouring suburbs that depart from Haneda Airport. Taxis, rental cars and private tours are also available from Haneda Airport.

Getting around Tokyo

Getting around Tokyo and surrounding neighbourhoods is easy with a range of trains, subways, bus companies and a tram line available. The public transport network and an increasing number of English signage, getting around Tokyo is becoming relatively stress-free. The system is efficient, clean, safe and easy to navigate. The subway is the quickest and easiest way to get around central Tokyo. By train, the Japan Rail (JR) Yamanote (loop) and Chūō-Sōbu (central) lines service major stations, and an easy way to see the sights. Taxis are easy to hail, though not cheap. Cycling is a fun way to get around, once you navigate the traffic with a bike share system available. The Toei bus runs though the city, though not as easy as the subway. It is possible to hire a car, though you will need an international licence and the roads can be confusing. Taxis and chauffeurs are a convenient way to ride around town.
