When to visit

With an average temperature of 22°C, San Diego is a year-round outdoor playground. The best times to visit are in summer (June to August) to make the most of the many beaches, bays and manicured gardens of Balboa Park. Summer is a popular time to visit with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 25°C. If you prefer fewer crowds, then September is a popular time to visit as the days are warm and low humidity. It's a good time for hiking and enjoying the local Californian cuisine and world-class breweries.

Getting into San Diego from San Diego Airport 

Getting into San Diego from the airport is easy with various transport options available. Choose from public transport, taxis, ride share, shuttles, limos or rental hire. By train take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner from the airport to downtown on route 993, that operate regular services. City bus routes 992, runs from the airport to the city is another option. The San Diego Flyer shuttle is a free service that runs between San Diego International Airport (SAN) and Old Town Transit Centre. San Diego Trolley is San Diego's light rail transit network. Its three lines serve many popular areas and attractions, such as Downtown and the Convention Centre. Taxis are available, simply follow the signs to the transport plaza or use an app based ride share service, for a handy way to get to your destination. Just use the Uber or Lyft apps to request your ride. If you're after a private way to travel it’s possible to organise a limo or hotel shuttle. If you choose to rent a car, there is a shuttle service to take you to the car rental centre.

Getting around San Diego

Traveling around San Diego is easy with a wide range of transport options to suit your needs. If you're planning to explore a wide range of the region, a rental car might be your best option. But, if you opt to stay in the city centre, or want to just relax along the coast, public transport is the way to go. San Diego offers many modes of public transport, with buses serving many routes across the city. If you're staying in and around downtown San Diego, the iconic bright red trolley will take you in and around the city. The trolley provides convenient services from key locations downtown and is a convenient way to travel. COASTER trains connect downtown San Diego and Old Town with regular services. The east-west SPRINTER light rail train system that connects Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos and Escondido that run every 30 minutes. The Pacific Surfliner is a relaxing and convenient way to travel along the San Diego coastline or you may like to jump in a pedicab for a unique way to explore along the waterfront. Taxis and shuttles operate in town and are a quick and easy wat to get around town, or book an Uber or Lyft ride share service. It's possible to rent a bike for a fun way to see the sights or jump on a ferry for a scenic tour within San Diego Bay. Alternatively, you may wish to rent a car or join a tour.
