When to visit

Tehran has a semi-arid, continental climate with dry, hot summers and cold winters. The best time to visit Tehran is during summer (June to August) with clear sunny days, low humidity and cool evenings. Temperatures average around 34°C. If you're after milder weather, spring (March to May) and autumn (September to October) are pleasant times to visit with perfect temperatures for sightseeing, around 21°C. Winters are very cold with snow, dropping to below freezing.

What is the main airport called?

Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA), also referred to as Tehran International Airport. It is the main airport in Tehran, the capital city of Iran. The airport is located 30km southwest of Tehran. 

Arriving in Tehran

The helpful staff at Tehran Airport will greet you when you land and assist you with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.         

Getting into Tehran from Tehran Airport  

Getting into Tehran from the airport is easy, with a range of transport options available. Choose from taxi, metro, hotel shuttle or car hire. Taxi is a convenient option, taking 45 minutes to get to the city centre and are located outside the terminal. IKA airport is connected to the metro for a fast, easy and reliable mode of transport, taking around 35 minutes to get to town. It's possible to rent a car from the airport, to explore the city at your own pace. Another option is to organise a private transfer with your hotel. 

Getting around Tehran

There are plenty of transport options to get around Tehran. The city has a modern metro system connecting various parts of the city, and it is one of the best ways to get around to avoid traffic congestion. From Tehran's central railway station, you can catch a train to other major destinations in Iran. There is a bus system, that is inexpensive, though it can be tricky to navigate. Taxis are a convenient way to travel around the city and can be recognised by the yellow and green colour. If you're staying in a luxury hotel, it’s possible to organise a private driver you take you around for the day. There are plenty of walkways and walking is a good way to see Vali-Asr. You can rent a car, though driving may be a challenge for travellers. There is a bike share scheme for cycling in Tehran, with docking stations through the city to pick up or return bikes.
