Old Delhi is a mostly Islamic melting pot of sounds, scents and traffic where you will truly feel like you’re far from home. Food and drink
No trip to India is complete without a sampling tour of the famous street delicacies, and Delhi is no exception. Chandni Chowk Markets are a great place to start for authentic street foods, and where you’ll find the famous potato chaat and every variety of stuffed and fried Panathas flatbreads imaginable. Finish your meal with a serving of traditional sweets Jalebi, a friend batter in swet syrup, or Kulfi, Delhi’s version of ice cream.
If you’d like a more refined experience, Connaught Place is considered the heart of the city with several eateries, bars and bistros to choose from – or try your hand at traditional recipes yourself with a cooking class.

Delhi is famous for street markets, so if shopping is your holiday pastime of choice you'll find everything from silver and saris to pashminas and perfume in its many markets and bazaars.
Stock up on Tibetan goods and leather in Janpath Market, stroll among Colonial architecture in Connaught Place or go underground for imported goods and electronics in Palika Bazaar.

Getting around
From the airport: The high-speed Delhi Metro Rail links Delhi Airport to the city centre in approximately 25 minutes on the Airport Express line. Private transfers and yellow taxis are a convenient way to travel from the airport and can be easily arranged at Delhi airport or pre-booked, but please note that the drive can take anywhere between 16 minutes and an hour, depending on traffic.
In and around the city: Delhi has an expansive metro system linking many of the most popular areas and attractions. Taxis or private cars are a good way to explore the city as well as the neighbouring landscapes and countryside, or take a ride on a rickshaw for an authentic mode of transport.
