When to visit

The best time to visit Auckland is during the summer months, December to February with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C. It's the perfect time  to make the most of the outdoor adventures on offer, from ferry trips over to Waiheke Island. Auckland’s weather is pleasant year-round, there is no bad time for sightseeing. June to August are Auckland’s winter months, with August  the best time for snow sports with temperatures ranging from 5°C to 18°C.

What is the main airport called?

Auckland Airport (AKL). The airport is a major airline hub in New Zealand and there are many domestic and international destinations for visitors to continue on to.  The airport is located near Mangere,  21 km south of the Auckland city centre.

The helpful and friendly Auckland Airport staff will greet you when you land and from there getting into the CBD is easy.  

Getting into Auckland

Conveniently located between both Auckland city and Manukau city, there are a number of bus, shuttle, taxi and rideshare services which can pick you up from the terminal. Alternatively, you may wish to hire a car to explore the scenic destinations surrounding the city.  It’s best to allow plenty of time when travelling to and from the airport to cater for any delays and ensure you arrive at least three hours before your international flight or one hour before your domestic flight. 

Getting around Auckland

Getting around Auckland is easy and affordable, whether you’re using public transport, driving, catching taxis and transfers, joining a tour or even hiring a bike. To explore more of New Zealand is easy too, with a wide range of tours for any budget, plenty of motorhomes to rent, motorbike and car hire options.
