Frequently asked questions

How do Bid Now Upgrades work and who is eligible?

Bid Now Upgrades are available for selected Qantas-operated domestic and Qantas-operated international flights.

  • You can make an upgrade offer to a more premium cabin using cash, or if you are a Qantas Frequent Flyer, a mix of cash and Qantas Points.
  • A minimum offer amount is set by Qantas in order for you to make a bid. There is a minimum and a maximum amount of money or points required for each flight segment. Any upgrade offer must be within this range.
  • Bid Now Upgrade requests commence processing from 24 hours to 2.5 hours before your scheduled flight departure on domestic flights and from 24 hours to 7 hours on international flights. We'll email you to let you know whether your offer has been accepted or not.
  • Up until 5 hours before your scheduled domestic flight departure and 10 hours before your scheduled international flight departure, you can make, change or cancel an unconfirmed Bid Now Upgrade request.

Upgrades offers will be accepted or rejected in Qantas' sole and absolute discretion. You can check here if you are eligible to make an offer. Once confirmed, if you cancel a confirmed Bid Now Upgrade, or fail to board a flight for which a Bid Now Upgrade has been confirmed (no-show), you will forfeit the Bid Now Upgrade. This includes any cash and/or Qantas Points used to redeem the Bid Now Upgrade, and a seat may no longer be available in the class of travel originally purchased.

How do I make an upgrade offer?

There are multiple ways you can bid for an upgrade:

  1. Bid Now Upgrades are available for selected Qantas-operated domestic and international flights.
  2. If you’d like to make a Bid Now Upgrade offer you can visit Manage Booking, the Qantas App, or click the link in your email to see if you are eligible. If eligible you can then choose the eligible flight segment you would like to make an upgrade offer for. If you are using the Qantas App, select ‘Request an upgrade’, and select the option that says ‘Bid to Upgrade’. This will be clickable  if you are eligible. Follow the steps to request an upgrade. Alternatively, go to the Bid Now Upgrades page and enter your booking details to see if you are eligible. If so, enter your contact and payment details in the fields provided, then review and submit your offer.
  3. You can make an offer to upgrade using cash, or if you are a Qantas Frequent Flyer, a mix of cash and Qantas Points.
  4. A minimum offer amount is required in order to make a bid.
  5. For cash only offers, move the slider within the specified range to indicate the amount of your upgrade offer.
  6. Adjust the slider to show the amount of money you would like to offer; if you are a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, input the Qantas Points you want to offer and select the update button.
  7. Bid Now Upgrade requests commence processing from 24 hours before your scheduled flight departure, and we’ll email you to let you know whether your offer has been accepted or not.
  8. You can make, change or cancel an unconfirmed Bid Now Upgrade request until 5 hours before departure on domestic flights and until 10 hours before departure on international flights.

Note: your nominated payment card will not be charged and (if appropriate) Qantas Points deducted from your account until your upgrade offer is accepted. UATP card is not accepted as a Bid Now Form of Payment.
