Our approach

Our Qantas Group Behaviours - Responsible, Respectful, Resilient set the standard for how we do things every day.

The Behaviours are built on what makes us unique, sets us apart and provide common language to guide expectations of ourselves and others.

They are incorporated into all parts of the employee life cycle and are integral to how we onboard, recognise, give feedback on performance and ensure our ongoing commitment to safety.

These behaviours support our people to be and do their best in a safe and inclusive culture.

Inclusion and Diversity

We value our people's diverse lived experience and believe that our inclusive culture contributes to our strength and success.

Our diversity of thought and experience helps us to understand our customers, make better decisions and get things done safely. Our aim is to build a safe and inclusive culture by championing equity and celebrating diversity.

In 2021, we launched our Inclusion and Diversity Strategy to drive better business outcomes and an improved people experience through shared accountability for inclusion and diversity. This strategy builds upon the work delivered under the Group’s 2018–2021 Inclusion and Diversity Strategy.

Implementation is driven by all leaders, with the support of the Inclusion and Diversity team together with employee-based networks such as Altitude, Illuminate, Enabled and Daramu.

The key pillars of our Inclusion and Diversity Strategy incorporate a spotlight on gender balance, delivery of the Qantas Group First Nations Strategy and Access and Inclusion plan, plus initiatives across LGBTQIA+ and Cultural Diversity.

Across the Group, we work with a number of partner organisations including Champions of Change Coalition, Chief Executive Women, Reconciliation Australia, Australian Disability Network, Asian Leadership Project, Parents at Work, Circle In, and Pride and Diversity to help support our long-term commitments.

We have a solid foundation of Inclusion and Diversity and have been broadening our focus to better reflect who we are as an organisation.

Australian Inclusion Awards Gold winner 2024

We're pleased to announce we've recently won Gold at the 2024 Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) Awards.

AWEI is a national benchmark for LGBTQI+ inclusion and much like the Gender Employer of Choice it's a really positive indicator to the market (employees and prospective candidates) that we have a positive level of LGBTQI+ inclusion.

Key focus areas

Gender balance

Qantas continues its long-term commitment to challenging stereotypes and ensuring merit-based gender diversity in aviation. The Group has made progress on our gender target, reaching 39.8 per cent representation of women in senior leadership, against our three-year target of 42 per cent.

We continue to focus on three key levers to improve representation of women in senior leadership; external hires, internal promotions and preventing attrition. Progress has been made on external hires, with fifty percent of external appointments into senior roles being female talent. In addition, Qantas is a part of the 'IATA 25 by 2025 Initiative', with a focus on increasing female pilots within the organisation and female nominations for IATA governance roles.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander careers

As Australia's national carrier, we have a clear role to play when it comes to reconciliation. We proudly advance this through the Qantas Group First Nations Strategy vision: to create a shared national identity that celebrates the knowledge and cultures of First Nations Peoples. Sustainable, meaningful careers are critical to our vision for reconciliation. We aim to build on our long, proud history of engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by providing First Nations representation, leadership, and engagement opportunities across the Qantas Group. LGBTQI+ inclusion

Qantas has a long history of supporting the LGBTQI+ community. We recognise the challenges faced by our people who identify as LGBTQI+ and are committed to creating an inclusive environment, regardless of gender identity, gender expression, sexuality, or intersex status.

Supporting trans and gender-diverse candidates

We understand the unique challenges and concerns trans and gender-diverse individuals may experience through a recruitment journey. Access and inclusion

The Qantas Group’s Access and Inclusion Plan outlines our commitment to accessibility and inclusion for our customers and employees with disability as well as the broader community. Read our Access and Inclusion Plan to see our ongoing commitment.

Cultural and linguistic diversity

We embrace all cultures and languages, and the new perspectives and insights they provide.

Life ages and stages

Supporting our people to do their best work at any time in their lives through identifying and removing barriers at all ages and stages.
