When to visit

The best time to visit Wellington is in summer which is the city's warmest and sunniest time of year with temperatures hitting between 19°C and 20°C. Autumn between March and May when the weather begins to cool which means it's a great time to take advantage of Wellington's many museums and galleries.  Winter, which spans from June to August, is considered the low season, and it's typically characterised by strong gusty Antarctic winds.

Wellington Airport (WLG). It is an international airport located in the suburb of Rongotai in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. Wellington Airport is located just a 20 minute drive from Wellington CBD.  

Arriving in Wellington

The friendly staff at Wellington Airport will greet you when you land, and from there, getting into the city is simple. 

Getting into Wellington from the airport 

Wellington Airport is 8 kilometres away from the Central Business District (CBD). The average journey by taxi is around 15 to 25 minutes depending on traffic and time of day. Taxi ranks can be found directly outside the baggage claim area on the ground floor of the main terminal. An airport shuttle is a cheaper option with the rank outside the main terminal and can be pre-booked in advance. Wellington airport offers convenient car rental services from a variety of operators and making a reservation is easy. It's a great way to explore the region at your own pace. Car sharing services are available, along with the Metlink Route 2 public bus service.  

Getting around Wellington

Wellington’s compact city centre means that it’s incredibly easy to get around - on foot, bike, by public transport, rideshare or private car. Alternatively, book a guided tour from a local company to explore hidden local gems and meet some of Wellington's local personalities. Wellington has an excellent public transport system with buses, trains and ferries. The Wellington Cable Car leaves from downtown Wellington to the leafy, village-like suburb of Kelburn. At the top of the Cable Car, you will find some of the best views of Wellington. Cycling, shuttle services and taxis are also available to get you where you need to go in Wellington.

What is the main airport called? 

Osaka International Airport (ITM). Often referred to as Itami Airport is the primary regional airport for the Kansai region of Japan, including the major cities of Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe. It is the airport closest to Kyoto, 36 kilometres southwest of Kyoto Station. The airport is located about 10 km (6 miles) from Osaka city centre.
