When to visit

Hannover has an Oceanic climate, with warm summers (June to August) and an average temperature from 20°C to 30°C. Winters are cool with an average of temperature of -2°C, making it the perfect time to visits the museums, including the Sprengel Museum and the Old Town Hall. May to October are the best times to visit with an average temperature of around 18°C making it a lovely time to stroll through The Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen and relax with a beer and pretzel in an outdoor beer garden.

What is the main airport called?

Hanover Airport (HAJ). It is the international airport of Hanover, capital of the German state of Lower Saxony. The airport is in Langenhagen, 11 km north of Hanover.

Arriving in Hanover

When your flight arrives on Hanover, you’ll be welcomed by the staff the airport to get your visit off to the right start. 

Getting into Hanover from Hanover Airport 

With a range of transport options available at Hannover Airport, travelling into the city centre is easy. Choose from train, bus, taxi, hotel shuttle, car rental or Uber. Travelling by train is an efficient way to reach Hannover from the airport. Hannover Flughafen railway station is located below Terminal C and has frequent services of Hanover S-Bahn line S5 to Hanover city centre. The journey time is approximately 18 minutes and the service runs every 30 minutes. By bus, the 407 route you can transfer from the airport to the city in around 20 minutes. Taxi stands can be found straight in front of the terminal exits on the arrivals level. The journey to downtown Hanover takes about 25 minutes depending on traffic, or you can book an Uber through the app. It's possible to rent a car and a free shuttle bus will take you from the terminal to the parking area, or you can organise a transfer with your hotel.

Getting around Hanover

Getting around Hanover is easy with public transport, taxi, Uber, bicycle and walking popular ways to get around. Hannover’s public transportation system is very efficient with trams, trains and buses which all connect with regional services. Trams are modern, clean, fast, comfortable and cover most of the city. There are also five suburban rail lines (S-Bahn) and the bus system is simple with bus stops found in many places of the city. Taxis are available and to hail one head to a taxi stand or phone ahead, alternatively you may wish to book an Uber. Hannover is a perfect place for cycling and there are many bicycle paths and places to rent a bike. The city can easily be explored on foot as most sights are located near to each other.
