When to visit

The best time to visit Bologna is in spring (April through to June) when the weather is not too hot, making it the perfect time to see the attractions. The average temperature during spring is between 17°C to 27°C. September is also a lovely time to visit with many food and wine festivals including the Prosciutto di Parma and Coppa Festivals. The average temperatures is 25°C. Summer (July and August) are particularly hot and humid, reaching 30°C. Though if you plan to visit during this time you can catch the outdoor film festival held in the magical Piazza Maggiore.

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) Also known as Bologna Airport is an international airport serving the city of Bologna in Italy. It's approximately 6 km northwest of the city centre in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. 

Arriving in Bologna

The welcoming staff at Bologna Airport will greet you when you land to help with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are multiple transport options available to get you on your way.  

Getting into Bologna from Bologna Airport

With a range of transport options available at the airport, getting to your destination is easy. Choose from public transport, taxi, car rental, airport shuttle or monorail. Car hire companies are located at the terminal on the ground floor of Bologna Airport and you can choose the car that suits your needs from a great variety of companies. The airport is about 5 km from Bologna Centrale railway station. The Marconi Express monorail connects the airport to Bologna Centrale railway station with a travel time of approximately 7.5 minutes. The airport is well-connected to the city and other areas in Italy by bus. Aerobus offers a direct scheduled transfer every 11 minutes and takes 20 minutes to get to the city centre. The bus stops at Mille (city centre) and Railway Station. Shuttle Italy is an alternative option that connects the airport to various regional destinations. Taxi is a convenient option with the taxi station right in front of the arrivals section. It takes about 30 minutes to town, you can jump in a cab or pre-book one online. 

Getting around Bologna

The top ways to get around Bologna are walking, taxis, train, bus and bicycle. By bus, there is an efficient bus system operating across the city. You can purchase tickets at tabacchi (tobacco shops), newsagents, bars and kiosks. A city pass is a good way to get around, which gives you 8 trips. Bologna has an excellent train network, to get to the major attractions and further throughout Northern Italy. Taxis can be hailed on the street, though it's better to hire them from the taxi ranks at Piazza Maggiore and the train station. It is possible to hire a car, though as Bologna's city centre is compact, there is no real need for a car and parking can be tricky. You can hire a motorcycle, bicycle, walk around the city centre or join a tour.
