Erosion carved the fairy chimney landscape of Turkey’s Cappadocia some 60 million years ago. Today, it’s a flourishing city where hotels and cafés are tunnelled out of these ‘tuff’ (solidified ash) structures, best experienced on a hot air balloon ride at sunrise or sunset.
