See Antarctica on a Boutique Boat
Imagine gliding silently past icebergs glowing an other-worldly iridescent blue – the one obstacle on a limitless horizon. Imagine the profound quiet, punctuated only by Adélie penguins chattering to one another on the ice while seals lollop lazily into the water.
On 17 December, the world’s first “discovery yacht”, Scenic Eclipse, departs Buenos Aires, Argentina, on a 21-day cruise to Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands. Just 200 guests at a time will get to experience the frozen continent at the end of the world from this new, exquisitely luxurious, ultra-boutique floating palace.
Each of the ship’s elegant suites has its own lounge area, private verandah, 24-hour in-room dining and butler service (naturally). Did we mention the fleet of 12 custom-made Zodiacs and kayaks for shore excursions, seven-seat submarine and two helicopters?
Cruise fans know Scenic more for its luxe Northern Hemisphere river journeys. With Scenic Eclipse launching on 31 August, the Australian company is dipping its toes into the ocean for the first time.
If you’re not fond of the cold, this immense vessel will also visit the historic ports of the Mediterranean and cross the Atlantic. Its first voyage to Miami departs Barcelona in September 2018.
