Regent Hotels & Resorts has added another jewel to its collection with Regent Bali Canggu, set against an ocean backdrop (and a soundtrack of soothing waves). Situated on Bali’s breathtaking south-western coastline, about 45 minutes’ drive from Denpasar, the suites-and-villas-only resort blends traditional Balinese materials with contemporary design touches – timber and andesite stone complement sleek beige tiling and curvaceous furniture. The timeless appeal of Japanese minimalism and Capella’s brand of quiet luxury will converge at this Kyoto outpost, a four-level beauty of blond wood, shoji doors and tatami-mat floors that’s just a block from the Kyoto Ebisu Shrine. You’ll still have a sense of the locality, however: there’ll be an omakase-style eatery onsite, plus a central bamboo courtyard for switching off, and the Auriga Spa will offer an onsen experience for full cultural immersion (and submersion).

You won’t have to leave Australia to experience “the Mediterranean” when Mondrian Gold Coast opens just moments from Burleigh Beach in Queensland. The interiors of this 208-room Gold Coast resort combine the region’s coastal charm with contemporary design (think curvy couches and textured walls). But the real star of this multistorey marvel is level 24’s Sky House, a luxury penthouse with rust-hued marble benchtops and a huge balcony that overlooks pandanus-lined shores and the hinterland beyond. Collegio alla Querce may have only opened its doors in March but it’s already generating buzz. Set within a 16th-century former university on a serene hilltop overlooking Florence, this 83-room hotel feels like a countryside retreat despite being just five kilometres from the city’s Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Every space is bathed in natural light – from the Tuscan-inspired Aelia spa, grounded in local healing traditions, to the guestrooms adorned with landscape-inspired murals. The former headmaster’s office has been transformed into Bar Bertelli, an evening haunt for cocktails, while the main restaurant, La Gamella, offers a conservatory-style setting overlooking an expansive patio.

This 17th-century palazzo in Rome’s historic Piazza della Minerva has lived many lives. Built in 1620 as the residence of the aristocratic Fonseca family, it was reimagined as a hotel in 1811. This year, it will begin a new chapter as Orient Express La Minerva, a 93-room treasure-trove that honours its storied past with original features such as marble floors and soaring archways – carefully restored by renowned architect Hugo Toro. On arrival, you’ll be met by a butler and escorted to your room, furnished with a king-sized bed draped in fine Rivolta Carmignani linens. Total relaxation is encouraged: take your pick between the soothing steam of the Turkish hammam or the rooftop bar with views of the Pantheon.

With its whitewashed walls and prime location near the best restaurants and night-life on Mykonos, Kenshō Boutique Hotel & Suites has epitomised the classic Greek islands atmosphere for close to a decade. Now, the hotel has rebranded as Kove Mykonos in a nod to its idyllic position between two popular beaches, Ornos and Korfos. As you retreat to your suite, a rustling sound in the distance catches your attention – it’s the resident elephants, wading into Lake Rwanyakazinga’s silvery waters. These unforgettable experiences await you at Wilderness Magashi Peninsula – Rwanda’s newest luxury eco-camp – where wildlife and exclusivity are the main drawcards (the nearest airport is Kigali International, a three-hour drive and scenic helicopter ride away). The intimate escape has just eight beds (including one four-bed villa) and there’s gloriously little to separate guests from the surrounding bush. But there are still frills to be found, such as the bespoke private dining experiences serving up dishes such as the Rolex breakfast wrap – a popular street food of savoury chapati filled with an omelette and fresh vegetables.

The Cali Villas is a staple of Canggu, offering a slice of Palm Springs style – complete with pink sun loungers and mint-green parasols – in the heart of Bali’s beloved coastal village. This year, a second location will open, retaining the same Cali charm. While you can expect the signature palm trees at the entrance, The Huntley is definitely more grown up; the fun pastels of the original property have been swapped for elegant terracotta tones and arched windows. There are only 13 villas, ranging from one to four bedrooms, and each has a private pool and fully equipped kitchen. The expansive fitness centre covers all the essentials, including weights and step machines, as well as a communal ice bath and sauna. (Guests in the four-bedroom villa have the added indulgence of their own private sauna, ice bath and rooftop gym.)

Fulfilling every child’s dream, the Treehouse Hotels brand has been bringing whimsical escapism to life since 2019. The latest outpost of this playful concept is brightening the streets of Manchester, with vibrant patchwork quilts and rainbow drapes colouring the 224 rooms. Mary-Ellen McTague (formerly of Heston Blumenthal’s three Michelin-starred Fat Duck) leads Pip, a restaurant that serves sustainable, locally sourced dishes. Start the day with a full English breakfast of homemade beans, portobello mushrooms, hash browns and organic eggs. At dinner, enjoy a vegetarian twist on the classic British pie, filled with celeriac and caramelised onion. To complete the Treehouse dream, guests are invited to carve a message into a wooden installation.

You’d be forgiven for thinking The Cooper, surrounded by lush vegetation and sparkling views of Charleston Harbour and the Cooper River, is tucked away in nature. But this urban oasis is just a short walk from the vibrant energy of King Street, where some of the city’s best restaurants (including Basic Kitchen) await. The six-storey hotel features 191 rooms and suites and a rooftop infinity pool – a glorious addition given Charleston’s subtropical climate, which promises pleasant swimming temperatures all year round. As the sun begins to set, venture up to the rooftop lounge – one of the property’s four hospitality venues – to enjoy a cocktail.

Popular Miami Beach hotel Faena will soon debut in the Big Apple, with the striking 120-key stay set to soar above 500 West 18th Street in West Chelsea. Designed by international architect Bjarke Ingels, the futuristic building features slanted exterior walls and panoramic views of the NYC skyline and Hudson River. The hotel will also boast an eatery led by Argentinian chef Francis Mallmann, whose open-fire cooking techniques will take centrestage. The crowning jewel is a 1600-square-metre spa with a variety of holistic healing rituals and treatments.
