St. Regis Hong Kong – Hotel Review
There’s an understated elegance to The St. Regis Hong Kong, from the hotel’s soothing colour palette of slate-greys and taupes to the interior design by André Fu, intended to evoke the cosy living areas of a grand private residence. Each of the hotel’s two Michelin-starred restaurants, the spa and even the pool set the same tone: sit back, relax and make yourself at home.
Where is The St Regis Hong Kong?
In Wan Chai, a harbourside suburb of Hong Kong Island, and about 30 minutes from the airport by taxi. The St. Regis overlooks the harbour and is a 10-minute walk from the water.
What’s near The St Regis Hong Kong?
Wan Chai is a bustling neighbourhood, filled with some of the city’s best restaurants and bars. In five minutes, you can walk from The St. Regis to the Convention and Exhibition Centre and to the Wan Chai ferry terminal, where the Star Ferry will take you across the water to shopping destination Tsim Sha Tsui.
Room types
The 129 rooms and suites at The St. Regis are all larger than the average Hong Kong hotel room and range from king bed guestrooms to generous suites for families. Opt for a Premier King Room on the corner, which offers views of the harbour and the city skyline.
Restaurants and bars
Two restaurants and a bar are at your service. In the lobby you’ll find Rùn, which has been awarded one Michelin star and serves modern Cantonese and a fantastic dim sum menu – make sure to try the lobster xiao long bao. There’s also L’Envol, a two-Michelin-starred fine-dining establishment serving classic French fare. Breakfast is served in the second-floor lobby and afternoon tea in The Drawing Room. At the hotel’s bar, order a Canto Mary, its Hong Kong-inspired twist on a Bloody Mary, which involves a splash of champagne and Chinese spices.
Sustainability
Thought and care has gone into the discreet sustainability offerings, from the recycling bins in each room to the bamboo toothbrushes in the bathroom.
Travel for work
Wi-fi is free and fast in all parts of the hotel. Rooms are big enough to work comfortably in or head to the lobby bar, where you might spot other business travellers holed up mid-morning.
Spa, pool and gym
The gym, spa and open-air pool are all located on the seventh floor. The pool is fully heated and offers views of the city skyline, as well as a bar for drinks and snacks, and is open from 7am to 10pm every day. The gym is open 24 hours a day all week. For weary travellers looking for rest and relaxation, the spa is open until 8pm, seven days a week. The signature bamboo massage incorporates heated bamboo sticks with the deep-tissue treatment and is about as good a jet-lag cure as you’ll find.
What you need to know
For a touch of ceremony, don’t miss the daily champagne sabring, every afternoon at exactly 5.30pm. The ritual helps mark the time between day and night at the hotel and is the ideal opportunity to indulge in a glass of bubbles.
