Amarterra Villas Bali Nusa Dua - MGallery – Hotel Review
Although this coastal corner of east Bali is almost exclusively dedicated to resorts, the villa-only Amarterra Villas Bali Nusa Dua - MGallery still manages to offer guests something new. Read on for the full review.
Space is one such luxury. Even the smallest villa here, with a deck built around mature trees and 10-metre-long plunge pool, is a generous 200 square metres, with an outdoor living space to swoon over. In Nusa Dua tradition, it’s as grand as you can get.
Where is Amarterra Villas Bali Nusa Dua - MGallery?
You’ll find Amarterra Villas in Nusa Dua, in the cluster of resorts on Bali’s east coast, about 700 metres from the ocean. It takes about 25 minutes by car to reach Ngurah Rai International Airport.
What’s near Amarterra Villas Bali Nusa Dua - MGallery?
The Nusa Dua area of Bali is almost exclusively dedicated to resort-style properties; you’ll likely spend more time on a sun lounger than out seeing the sights (of which there are few outside of the sea). Don’t fight it: grab a towel and get horizontal.

There are villas, then there are villas. The distinction at Amarterra is the sprawling outdoor living area – a covered patio area with lounge seating, coffee-making station and outdoor TV, extending the already generous villa space into the balmy surrounds. Inside, huge beds are draped with mosquito nets next to a walk-in wardrobe, a fruit basket is refreshed daily and marble bathrooms are crowned by an enormous tub overlooking the lush garden area. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a villa-only property – complete with a private pool flecked with foliage from the trees that hang over it.
Restaurants and bars
Maja is the hotel’s only restaurant and it serves a sizable menu of Pan-Asian classics (including the ubiquitous mie goreng and saucy beef rendang). Dining is somewhat geared towards in-villa experiences, with everything from floating breakfasts to candlelit dinners and traditional megibung dinners – a kind of family meal – where diners forgo chairs, share food served on banana leaves and wash meals down with Balinese arak cocktails. Why leave the villa if it isn’t strictly necessary?
Travel for work
Each villa has a full-sized desk and free wi-fi, of course. There’s also a meeting room on-site.
Spa, gym and pool
In addition to private, in-villa “plunge” pools, guests can wade into either the hotel’s main pool or the property’s private stretch of beach, complete with loungers and umbrellas.
Set in its own walled villa, the on-site spa sequesters guests into their own blissful sanctuary. Treatments are based on a hybrid of Buddhist and Hindu philosophy, described through the holistic concept of dharma – an attempt at rebalance through eight key foundations.
The gym (currently undergoing maintenance at the time of writing), overlooks the main pool, with a limited range of equipment.
What you need to know
Three-bedroom villas are palatial, in both their scale and inclusions. Families or groups will have space to spread out (and then some): there’s a kitchenette and dining table for 10, which backs onto a lounge and TV area, across an incredible 350 square metres.
