Want to learn how to cook fish in a banana leaf? Yearning to discover the secret behind a good Balinese spice paste? Curious to know what constitutes a fiery sambal? Bumbu Bali cooking classes start with an early morning visit to the bustling local fish markets of Jimbaran and a colourful vegetable market to pick up fresh ingredients. Classes provide a tantalising introduction into the exotic fruits and spices of Indonesia: revel in the intoxicating aromas of lemongrass, galangal, chilli and ginger as you grind with your mortar and pestle. On the menu: authentic Indonesian curry, spicy salads and traditional sweets and, of course, you get to eat the products of your labour so there’s plenty of incentive to learn well. Classes are very popular so book well in advance.
