Slipping into your own pool from the living room, just steps from the bed, may make a beach feel redundant but at Soori Bali, which sits beside a stretch of glittering black sand, you can have it all. North-west of Canggu, in a region of rice paddies and unhurried villages, the sleek resort has 48 beach-, ocean- or mountain-view villas and residences, two restaurants (serving Western and Indonesian dishes), a spa, library and palm-dotted lawns, and is a world unto itself. Order lunch and dinner to your poolside cabana but don’t miss the breakfast tasting menu at Cotta.

Tabanan Regency is wonderfully laid-back, ideal for guests who want to check in and stay in. Room types

Soori Bali, Indonesia

All of Soori Bali’s 48 villas are contemporary visions of white, black, natural materials and sophisticated Indonesian-inspired accents. Whether you choose a view of the beach, ocean or mountains, most amenities remain the same: private pools, complimentary mini bars, the daily tasting breakfast at Cotta restaurant , afternoon turn-down tea service and a host available to help with anything you need. If you’re travelling with kids, Soori’s three- and four-bedroom Residences (for up to eight guests) ensure everyone has enough space to spread out and relax.

Restaurants and bars

Soori Bali, Indonesia

There are two beachside restaurants at Soori Bali – Cotta, which serves both international and Indonesian specialties (and the incredible “tasting menu” daily breakfast), while high-end Ombak has a focus on European classics such as saffron crab risotto and roasted Angus beef. The Reading Room offers healthy juices, pastries and light meals. While the resort’s remote location is ideal for getting away from it all, there aren’t the local dining options of busier areas like Seminyak or Ubud.

Sustainability

The property meets the EC3 Global EarthCheck Standard for Building, Planning and Design through various measures including the minimisation of water waste (efficient appliances and separate supplies for garden and domestic use), and reduced energy consumption (efficient lighting systems, solar passive layouts and gardens planted to cool spaces naturally). Soori Bali supports the local community through various education and training opportunities, from funding English classes in schools to vocational hospitality scholarships.

Travel for work

Wi-fi is fast and free throughout the resort and there are plenty of quiet spaces to check emails (if you must!). For more formal meetings and conferences, the Courtyard Boardroom can accommodate up to 108 guests in various configurations.
