Act like Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love and wander through Ubud’s atmospheric, albeit slightly touristy market right in the centre of town. Colourful indoor and outdoor stalls are stacked high with carved wooden angels, brass Hindu statues, colourful kites, sarongs and batiks. Locals still shop in the traditional section where you’ll find homewares, temple baskets and plenty of spices.

Location

Set in the foothills of Bali, 35 kilometres from Seminyak, Ubud is an arts village surrounded by rice fields, palm groves and dramatic forested ravines. Known as the cultural heart of Bali, it is also a haven for gourmands and those looking to tap into the more spiritual side of the island.
