Park Hotel Tokyo – Hotel Review

In a city of pricey properties, Park Hotel Tokyo’s affordable room rates and entire level dedicated to art-themed rooms offers visitors a vibrant respite. Read on for the full review.

With a central, soaring atrium clad in chocolate-coloured wood, the Shiodome property appears to be another restrained hotel. Step out at the 31st floor and you’ll notice a big break with the sober theme, however. Each room on this level features the work of a different local artist – it could be a detailed wall mural or a full-room installation – so unlocking the door to your room feels a bit like opening a door to a secret portal. It’s a fun little touch to an otherwise sleek stay with an interesting fusion of attentive Japanese hospitality and local eclecticism.

Where is Park Hotel Tokyo? 

Steps from Shiodome Station, Park Hotel Tokyo towers over a district of casual bars, upscale restaurants and shopping centres. It takes about an hour by car to reach Narita International Airport, with direct access via train from nearby Shimbashi Station.  

What’s near Park Hotel Tokyo?

Ginza, an upscale ward of designer boutiques and busy boulevards, is about 15 minutes walk north. The moat-encircled Imperial Palace is an easy one-line trip from Shimbashi Station, and the peaceful Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is less than half an hour by train, too.  

Room types 

Guests can expect picture windows and simple furnishings (and even simpler bathrooms) in the compact rooms which begin from the 26th floor, leaving the focus for stunning views of the surrounding skyline. Deluxe rooms and above have a generous amount of space considering the Tokyo standard, inclusive of a full-size workspace to pair with the free in-room wi-fi. When combined with views of the Tokyo Tower, it’s a stunning choice on a reasonable budget. 

Rooms on the 31st floor have quite a bit more flair. Every room is dressed with the artwork of a local artist and all are a surprise; a refreshing change from the cookie-cutter hotel rooms.

Restaurants and bars 

There’s a varied cluster of eateries located on the hotel’s 25th floor; each of the five restaurants wrapped in stunning views of the city skyline. Hanasanshou serves pristine Japanese in the form of delicious bento at lunch and extensive, precise kaiseki-style meals for dinner, while ART colours Dining does an eclectic spread of non-local dishes – everything from tripe to margherita pizzas and tagliatelle with porcini and Wagyu. Guests will also find a bright open space for coffees and teas on the first floor. 

Travel for work

Although the rooms are equipped with wi-fi, the Executive Museum Lounge on level 25 is where you’ll want to settle in for a few hours. A stellar spot for a beverage and some emails (especially in the evening when the city lights turn on), it’s for hotel guests only and has a quiet, intimate atmosphere – so save the video meetings for when you retire to your room. 

Spa

The on-site THANN Sanctuary is a renowned little spa, with a menu of naturally powerful ingredients such as tanakura and bentonite clays for skin detoxification and shiso extract as an antioxidant moisturiser. 

Sustainability

The hotel has committed to the UN’s raft of sustainable development goals, spanning everything from water conservation to energy saving. In practice, guests will find efforts to reduce energy with LED lighting and single-use materials in eco-friendly laundry bags.

Accessibility   

Although the hotel is accessible to wheelchair users and guests with guide dogs, there’s only one wheelchair accessible room in the hotel, so checking ahead for availability is crucial.
