Mocan & Green Grout has achieved a perfect storm of cool by melding its on-point cafe with a bike-making business. It’s even too cutting edge for Braddon, instead holding shop in Canberra’s other achingly hip area, New Acton. Inevitably, the precinct has been labelled a “hipster hangout” by some but Mocan & Green Grout walks the walk as well as it talks the talk, delivering a sensational seasonal menu (try the many hearty soup concoctions during winter). There's a neat wine list with drops to enjoy with dinner after 6pm – don’t be surprised if you get cosy with your neighbouring diners at the shared table while the cooks prepare your meal in the open kitchen.

Location
On the edge of Canberra’s Civic and the larger suburb of Acton, which is home to the Australian National University, the NewActon precinct is a haven for forward-thinking individuals and businesses (including restaurants, bars, cafes, galleries and boutique hotels) that place eco design and sustainable living at the forefront of their ideals.
